La
Scala
-
Perhaps the most famous opera house in the
world. Open till 5:30pm last
admission is 5pm. 5 Euros. In
addition to the displays, you get a peek at
the opera house from a box. You can
stay there a while if you wish. Quite
often there is some sort of rehearsal going
on.
For most performances, they sell the top
two rings of seats and some standing
room for 12 Euros on a first come first
served basis starting 2 hours before the
show. They usually pass out line
tickets a bit before that, so you can
get a line ticket, explore a bit and
come back to purchase your seat. The
evening ticket office where you purchase
these cheap seats is in a covered
walkway further left (looking at the
building) down the left side of the
building (around the corner from the
museum). Dress for the cheap seats
seems to be nice casual, including nice
jeans. There is a unit offering an
English translation at most seats.
After purchasing these cheap seats,
and having 1 1/2 to two hours before the
show, I have had good luck by walking
down the street along the right side of
the building (again looking at the
building) for about 10 minutes.
